PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Beacon Minerals has poured its first gold from its Halleys East openpit operation, in Western Australia.

“This is a significant milestone for Beacon. From the date the current board took control in March 2012, it has taken just over 24 months to obtain Department of Mines and Petroleum approval, debt and equity fund the project and complete the first gold pour,” said Beacon MD Graham McGarry.

“This has been achieved in what must be considered the most difficult period in recent history for small miners and explorers,” he added.

Ore from Halleys East was processed at the FMR Greenfields processing facility, and 8 613 t of ore was milled, with an overall feed grade of 7.35 g/t.

At the end of April, Beacon had mined in excess of 402 000 m3, which represented some 62.8% of the final pit design. To date, a total of 40 000 t of ore had been mined.

Careful grade control had resulted in 20 000 t of high-grade and lower-grade flushing ore being stockpiled for cartage to the mill.
