Ferrum progresses Moonlight BFS to final stages
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Triple-listed iron-ore developer Ferrum Crescent is set to progress with the final stages of the bankable feasibility study (BFS) for its Moonlight iron-ore project, in Limpopo.
The Moonlight project has already undergone significant amounts of metallurgical process work and the next BFS stage for process work represented “the critical path” for the whole project, Ferrum MD Tom Revy said in an update to shareholders on Friday.
The company would now start work such as the engineering design, connection to local infrastructure and permitting for the pelletising operation.
Metallurgists would work with geologists to identify key areas for representative sample selection for advanced testing, including a pilot testwork programme.
Revy said immediate testwork would focus on financially optimising grind size versus iron recovery, while future work would include improving the efficiency of the pelletising technology process, which involved undertaking activities such as temperature profiling and treatment times.
“ … many key components such as metallurgy, mining right and infrastructure pathways [are] completed or well under way. We shall now be focused on moving forward and process work into trial mining, and working on final infrastructure agreements to feed into the existing power, rail and port amenities,” he explained.
