PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining contractor MACA has reported a fatality at the Karlawinda gold mine in Western Australia.

The company said in a statement that the Western Australian Police had been notified and were currently on scene, and that the Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety had also been advised.

MACA did not give any indication into the "significant incident" which occurred at the Capricorn Metals-owned mine.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and workmates of our colleague. We will be providing support to our colleague’s family and our teams as we all work through this tragic event,” said MACA CEO David Greig.

Karlawinda poured its first gold in June of last year, and the project has the capacity to produce between 110 000 oz/y to 125 000 oz/y of gold.
