EVG Mineral Resource Holdings – New kids on the block

BACKGROUND

EVG Mineral Resource Holdings entered into the mining space in June 2019 with their office based in Johannesburg. The company, founded by Vipul Gandhi and Edwin Bassingthwaighte, focuses on acquiring, developing and mining mineral resources throughout Africa. The company has allied with Masemanzi Mining Holdings as their strategic partner for mining and trading in coal assets. 

THE MANAGEMENT

Vipul Gandhi is the CEO heading the company. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession with over 20 years’ experience. He possesses vast experience in the mining industry with specialisation in acquisitions and investment sourcing. Prior to this he was the CEO of Mangalani Mining which was part of Masingita Group of Companies. He has worked with Jindal Africa, Gemfields, Al Thani Petroleum and Oryx Group. Vipul Gandhi has gained global work experience from working in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North & Southern Africa.

Edwin Bassingthwaighte is the Chairman. He hails from a fifth generation pioneering immigrant family from England. His great-great grandparents were the first European settlers in the then pre- colonial South West Africa. He holds an MBA in Strategic Management from the Maastricht School of Management. Edwin has made a name for himself in the duty free trading space in several cross-border locations throughout the region.

CURRENT PROJECTS

EVG Mineral Resource Holdings along with Masemanzi Mining Holdings has concluded acquisition of Anglo Welsh Coal mine in Paul Pietersburg which produces anthracite coal and Manganex Mine in Lichtenburg which produces high grade manganese. The company has acquired minority stake in an iron ore asset in Namibia which is held by a subsidiary of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. It recently opened a Zambian subsidiary company in partnership with the Zambian soccer legend Kalusha Bwalya. The Zambian company is in the process of acquiring manganese mines in Mkushi and Mansa district.

Further EVG Mineral Resource Holdings has majority shareholding in Sapphire One Mining Lda which has sapphire and other gemstones mining concession of over 4,700 hectares strategically located at Mutarara district in Mozambique. The Sapphire One Mining project will be headed by Yogesh Khatoria who is former operations director of Gemfields (India). He was felicitated with the “Bharat Gaurav” at the British Parliament for his noteworthy contribution in the global gemstone industry.
