ERA receives federal approval for Ranger restart
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The commonwealth government has given its consent to uranium miner Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) to implement its restart plan at the Ranger mine, in the Northern Territory.
Plant operations at the Ranger mine have been suspended since December last year, after a mixture of slurry moved outside the containment area, following the failure of a leach tank.
ERA has subsequently worked to dismantle and remove the leach tank from site, with the company also implementing independent recommendations on asset integrity and maintenance at the project.
At the beginning of April, the ERA board approved the restart of processing plant operations.
However, the miner pointed out on Thursday that the restart of the processing plant was still dependent on approval from the Northern Territory state government. The company was continuing to work with the state government, it said.
Meanwhile, ERA temporarily halted work at the ventilation shaft of the Ranger 3 Deeps exploration decline, after an area of soft ground gradually subsided beneath the top of the vent opening.
