EPF Systems installs dust filtration system at Gauteng porcelain factory
Engineering company EPF Systems has successfully completed the design, fabrication and installation of a new dust filtration system at a new porcelain tile factory, in the south of Gauteng.
Together with its technology partner, Delta-Neu, from France, the project involved a 56 000 Nm3/hr airflow baghouse, two wet scrubber units, as well as a centralised vacuum cleaning unit.
Subsequent to the successful commissioning of the various units, the order for another wet scrubber for the second phase of the project was received.
EPF Systems project director Cobus Raubenheimer says an independent environmental consultant verified the dust emissions after the commissioning of the plant.
“The maximum dust concentration of the various stacks was a maximum of 12 mg/Nm3, which is well below the required emissions level,” he says.
Besides air filtration, EPF Systems is also a technology partner in the slurry pumping and liquid and gas filtration fields.
“The technologies are somewhat diverse, but the methodology of execution of all the technologies, however, is the same, namely a site-specific engineering project approach,” Raubenheimer says.
EPF Systems is the project execution partner for the Delta Zero slurry pumping technology, which is said to save up to 30% in power costs and 50% in maintenance costs, compared with conventional slurry pumping systems.
Raubenheimer says a positive business case for the implementation of the Delta Zero technology can be developed if electricity costs are high, slurry pumping pressures are higher than 10 bar to 12 bar and slurry pumping volumes are higher than 300 m3/h.
The slurry pumping technology has been developed in South Africa over the past five years and independently verified by engineering specialist Paterson & Cooke. Units are currently operating at the processing plants of mining companies Harmony Gold and Anglo American.
EPF’s liquid and gas filtration technology partner, Jonell, is a designer and manufacturer of filtration and separation products and services for a range of sectors from the oil and gas to petrochemicals, water treatment and compressed air industries.
