Giving reaps great rewards, and for Engen employees and dealers their collective efforts accumulated R57 400 for the Emasithandane Children’s Home in Nyanga, Cape Town.

At a special handover ceremony on 10 December 2015 at Engen Golf Park Office, Zelphina Maposela from Emasithandane Children’s Home was presented with the proud donation aimed at covering the costs of food, stationery and clothing for the 40 children under her care.

Funding was achieved through the joint contributions of the Employee Community Partnership Programme (ECPP) and Dealer Community Partnership Programme (DCPP) under the auspices of Engen employees volunteering at Emasithandane.

Engen’s Corporate Social Investment Manager, Mntu Nduvane says: “We are encouraged by our employees who give of their time by volunteering in community organisations. As a company committed to a policy of community involvement and social upliftment, we thank our employees for being ambassadors of our brand”.

According to Nduvane, employees are encouraged to volunteer by investing in sweat equity at a charitable organisation and are allowed to apply directly to Engen, on behalf of that organisation, for a supporting grant.

This means that individuals have the power to make a difference as demonstrated by Engen employee, Tasneem Vallie who is a volunteer at the home.  Tasneem was compelled to challenge Engen Dealers to back the donation drive, and in so doing, could bolster the funds to go the extra mile.

“To Engen’s volunteers - Tasneem Vallie, Ayanda Bolani, Nomonde Mangena, Bulelwa Keseni and Mishka Jassiem – a warm thank you for your spirit of generosity and to our Dealers we say thank you for kindly contributing towards a worthy initiative,” added Nduvane.

Dealers who contributed included: Nicky Thompson from Guys Service Station; Edgar Sidia from Nyanga Service Station; Shireen Bedford from Bedgro Service Station and Iqbal Hassan from Mitchells Place Service Station.
