Engen Edgemead makes friends with happy customer
This article has been supplied.
From Engen Edgemead comes this inspiring and on-brand story of friendship and caring for the communities in which the company operates.
In the story, a happy customer rewards her local service station staff for their great service with a gift shower for all their children, showing that there are great people among us and that business can be as personal as Engen’s friendship-themed ads suggest.
Impressive service
Felicity Jarman, an Edgemead resident working at Optimus Property Solutions in Century City, is a long-time customer of Edgemead Convenience Centre. Throughout this time, she says, staff impressed her with their friendly and helpful service.
“Each and every time that my son and I fill up, we are greeted with a smile and excellent service. I visit the shop on a regular basis, and am always greeted with smiles and a ‘good morning Mama!’”
The forecourt and retail shop are always spotless, the stock fresh, and the staff remarkably honest, she adds. “On filling up one time, my son decided to throw away the rubbish in his car, but included some important documents. The staff noticed this and handed the document to the manager, who contacted me.”
Just rewards
“Last year, I decided they’re such lovely people and always so good to me and my family that I needed to do something for them as a thank-you, and so I asked for a list of their children, as I wanted to buy them something for Christmas.”
Armed with the list, Felicity cleverly enrolled friends and colleagues, together giving each child (45 in all, ranging from 3 months to 25 years) a gift.
Unexpected surprise
Five months later, her son asked her to go to the Engen on some pretext. “As I entered the shop I was surprised with a Mother’s Day gift – a beautiful wall clock and a huge box of toffees and chocolates – and a lovely card. It was the most awesome gift I have ever received! I had no idea that the staff had planned this with my son for two weeks.”
Felicity says the joy on staff’s faces when she delivered the gifts on 24 December was all the thank you she needed. “But this gesture was something else. It just shows what friendship is about, and that we are all just people who must respect each other.”
If given the opportunity, she says, she would involve herself in helping to further the education of the children, to ensure their futures are successful and their parents are looked after in their old age.”
Unlike anything else
Edgemead Convenience Centre dealer Luzuko Tseku says Felicity’s enterprise and thoughtfulness blew the staff away.
“We want to make friends of our customers and the community, and our staff go the extra mile to earn that honour. But I have never seen anything quite like this.”
