In 2014, Italy's Iren Group decided to restructure one of its wastewater treatment systems for urban sewage waste. Analysis by Robuschi's expert engineers showed that the original system was larger than necessary for the tank’s true oxygen demand. The actual air consumption varied significantly throughout the 24-hour cycle, meaning that the system was both wasting energy and creating high residue levels.

Iren Group's set-up didn’t have the flexibility to lower the machines’ oxygen production below a certain threshold. The first step was to link all of Iren's machines together. With demand fluctuating between 600 m3/h and 3,000 m3/h, the system needed a compressor with immense flexibility - that's where Robuschi's newest screw compressor, ROBOX Energy, came in.

EXCEPTIONAL FLEXIBILITY
Iren and Robuschi technicians worked side by side refurbishing Iren's wastewater treatment system. The ROBOX Energy compressor can be switched on and off as needed, communicating smoothly with Iren's PLC, which adjusts the process parameters as required. Alternatively, the Robuschi compressor analyses and applies the oxygen data received directly from the process.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION HALVED
Iren technicians reported a 30% reduction in the tank’s electricity consumption. Thanks to ROBOX Energy's flexibility and Smart Process Control, Iren was further able to reduce air generation by 20%, bringing total energy savings to 50%. As ROBOX Energy has no moving parts, there is no wear-and-tear, reducing maintenance costs even further.

Thanks to ROBOX Energy, Iren has improved its plant's energy efficiency and significantly reduced its operating costs.

TEE CERTIFICATES
Now that Iren's improved energy efficiency has become embedded in their operations, Iren Group can request TEE recognition ("white" energy efficiency certificates).
ROBOX Energy: the game-changing screw compressor!

• 30% improvement in energy efficiency through superior pump technology
• 30% reduction in cost through Smart Process Control
• 30% reduction in footprint thanks to our new compact size
