Enel Green Power, also known as EGP, seeks out energy around the globe: in the power of wind and water, in the heat of the sun, in the depths of the earth and, above all, in people.

Founded in December 2008 as part of Enel Group, EGP has a presence in 28 countries on five continents, developing and managing activities for the generation of energy from renewable sources. It has been at the forefront of integrating innovative technologies into renewable energy plants since inception.

The group’s renewable energy production mix includes sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric and geothermal. On a global scale, EGP is one of the main renewable operators with an annual production of about 82 TWh.

The potential of renewable energy presents an excellent opportunity for African countries pursuing a path of sustainable energy development. EGP is now the main private operator in the renewables sector in Africa in terms of installed megawatts, with a stable presence in South Africa, Zambia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Morocco. The company currently has twelve operational projects in Africa and another three wind projects under construction on the continent.

EGP first set foot in South Africa in 2011 under the banner of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme, the first African programme for the development of renewable energy by way of a competitive tender system.

Over the past ten years, the company – EGP RSA – has developed a strong presence in the local market, with more than 900 MW of wind and solar projects in operation and a further two plants in final stages of construction.
