PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Kimberley Diamonds on Thursday announced that it had achieved its highest price per carat for its rough diamonds at its Ellendale mine, in Western Australia, since taking over ownership in February last year.

“The demand for our Ellendale rough diamonds remains consistently strong, with the overall price per carat continuing to increase as evidenced by the results of our latest auctions,” said Kimberley MD Noel Halgreen.

The auction, in Antwerp, sold a total of 24 546.69 ct from the Ellendale mine, which fell outside those sold in offtake agreements with jeweller Tiffany’s & Co. The sale achieved prices of A$209.21/ct.

In February this year, Kimberley restarted mining at the E9 pit, after a routine blast caused some slippage of the pit wall beneath the main access ramp, temporarily rendering the ramp unsafe for use.
