On the 27th of February, PR Unorthodox hosted the first instalment of its monthly Effeminacy Women's Entrepreneurship breakfast. The event was held in the heart of Maboneng under the comfort and subtleness of OPEN Collaborative City Workspaces.

The event was filled with networking and learning opportunities. Each attendee was permeated with golden insight into what Africa's energy industry needs for its growth. The panel of speakers included esteemed industry leaders such as Sanele Vilakazi, Noxolo Kahlana and Heather Malcomess, who inspiringly shared what their journey has taught them. Africa Business Radio was also present to live broadcast the day's lessons which includes the below;

"Ubuntu and capitalism can live in one room but can never be friends"

Sanele touched up on the syndrome of greed, which is evident in society now as people hang onto a belief that there is not enough for everyone, noting specifically to previously disadvantaged individuals who only see the new money for themselves instead of trying to benefit everyone as much as possible.

Noxolo sees the solution to individualistic ideals by approaching capitalism with a mindset of abundance,  and the only way to achieve that would be to target individuals to remember the richness of our land.

"Not everything that comes from outside is better"
Noxolo also suggested that we get over our inferiority complex as South Africans, adding that our leaders compromise our resources during negotiations, as we live in a country that is rich in gold, diamonds and silver, amongst other natural resources. "Our leaders do not negotiate at the interest of their people", she said.
Heather included that we should embrace our South Africanness and be aware of what we are representing at all times.

"More local investments will result to jobs and that will lead to more jobs"
Heather mentioned a Cape Town train that runs on energy to substantiate the point that we have enough recourses in South Africa that can lead to inventions that can be kept for local consumption. In addition, the conversation was  loaded with details about personal challenges regarding startup funding, sponsorship, and gender and race issues.

The breakfast was nothing short of spectacular; from presentation to prudence, high regarding it as one for the books. Please see the link below of the discussion on the morning; https://soundcloud.com/africa-business-radio/women-in-energy-unorthodox-corporate-pr
