Education on the move – Touch Toy Library project in Rustenburg widens its reach

Air Products South Africa believes that the future of this country lies in the healthy development of its children, and has therefore always put education at the heart of its corporate social investment drive. One of the projects which captured Air Products’ attention is the Toy Library, an early-learning programme initiated by children’s organisation Cotlands. Last June, in partnership with Cotlands and Touch Community Network, Air Products helped to launch a Touch Toy library in Rustenburg, close to one of the company’s operations. The library is designed to provide a solid and nurturing developmental foundation for children by giving them access to educational toys, material and play therapy.
“As a company, we believe that giving back to the communities in which we live and operate is essential in order to ensure that future generations of South Africans flourish socially, economically, financially and in their careers,” says Josua Le Roux, General Manager – Central Services at Air Products.
Since the inception of the project, over 1,500 pre-school children from economically disadvantaged communities have gained access to educational toys.
In June 2014, Air Products followed up on its commitment to this project by donating a branded vehicle, to further assist Touch Community Network in their work in the community. “Play has long been acknowledged as a crucial factor in children’s development. It is heart-breaking that so many of our children are denied this fundamental building block. It is our privilege to be able to help make a difference in these young lives. We hope that the donation of this vehicle will further strengthen the impact of this project, by enabling the Touch Toy Library to reach many more marginalised children,” says Le Roux.
