JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – DRDGold produced 1 034 kg of gold in the first quarter of its 2017 financial year, a 1% increase on the 1 022 kg produced in the prior quarter.

Volume throughput rose 8% quarter-on-quarter to 6.6-million tonnes, compared with 6.1-million tonnes in the prior quarter. The increase in throughput offset the effects of maintenance to the City Deep mills, in Johannesburg, resulting in flat quarter-on-quarter production.

The final clean-up of specific Crown Mines sites weighed on costs, with cash and cash equivalents at the end of the first quarter at R335-million.

The effect of this clean-up is likely to continue until the third quarter of 2017.
