PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diversified major BHP Billiton has awarded project house Downer two contracts, with a combined value of A$100-million, at its iron-ore operations in the Pilbara.

Downer reported on Tuesday that it had been awarded a A$40-million rail package at the ore car repair workshop, as well as the A$60-million Shiploaders 1 and 2 project.

The rail package involved the design and construction of rail works for the workshop, including the design of a signalling and communications system, construction of new track equipment rooms, new cable and routes and other works.

Work on the rail package would be completed in the second half of the year.

The Shiploaders 1 and 2 project involved the upgrading of two conveyors at Nelson Point, Port Hedland, followed by deconstruction of the existing shiploaders.

Final work on this contract was expected in the first half of 2015.
