Doray goes underground at Andy Well
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Doray Minerals has started underground mining at its Andy Well project, in Western Australia.
The miner said on Thursday that the first portal trim blast was completed near the end of April, and at the start of May, the decline had advanced a distance of around 16 m underground.
MD Allan Kelly said that the start of underground development was a key milestone in Doray’s aim to become Western Australia’s next high-grade gold producer.
“The completion of the openpit and transition to underground mining is another significant milestone for Doray, again met on schedule, and is the beginning of a new phase for the company,” Kelly said.
Openpit mining at Andy Well started in November, with first production scheduled for the September quarter of this year.
“While the openpit mining has been exciting in itself, within the next month or so, we will start mining the high-grade Wilber Lode from underground, and this makes up the bulk of the deposit,” said Kelly.
He noted that Doray was still on track for first gold production from Andy Well during the September quarter.
Meanwhile, Kelly reported that construction of the processing plant and other site infrastructure was progressing on schedule, with first gold production to follow the commissioning of the processing plant.
As with the Stage 1 openpit operations, ore from the underground mine would be stockpiled for future treatment once the processing plant was commissioned.
The Andy Well project currently hosted a resource of some 1.22-million tons, at 11.3 g/t gold for 444 000 contained ounces.
