ASX-listed Discovery Metals Limited (DML) last week announced the restructuring of its Boseto copper project, in Botswana, which would result in the lay-off of some 15% of the total workforce.

DML told shareholders that the restruc-turing programme was designed to improve the cost competitiveness of the mine and further enhance production efficiencies.

The exercise would see the retrenchment of 85 of the 516 employees at the Boseto mine, but was not expected to have a material effect on the production at the operation, DML said.

The restructuring followed extensive discus- sions with key stakeholders, including employees and government representatives, and followed the restructuring of all DML’s divisions, including its Brisbane and Gabarone offices, which was also implemented to improve the cost competitiveness and cash costs of copper production.

The Boseto mine’s production fell by 6.5% quarter-on-quarter during the three months to September to 4 705 t.
