JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – After meeting on Tuesday in Antwerp, Belgium, the heads of the global jewellery and diamond industry's four largest international representative bodies have agreed to establish a joint consultative committee to discuss and formulate coordinated strategies and policies on matters of common interest.

The objective of the so-called Presidents Forum, whose members would comprise the presidents of the four industry bodies, would be to “reflect the interests of all participants and stakeholders in the industry through discussion and coordination”.

Its founding members were World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) president Gaetano Cavalieri, World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) president Ernest Blom, International Diamond Manufacturers Association president Maxim Shkadov and World Diamond Council (WDC) president Edward Asscher.

The forum's inaugural meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the 36th World Diamond Congress, was chaired by honourary life president of the CIBJO, WFDB and WDC Eli Izhakoff.

The newly established forum members said in a statement on Tuesday that, as the elected presidents of international diamond organisations, they collectively represented the rank and file of the diamond, gemstone and jewellery industry worldwide.

“Among our first order of business, we will engage with the Precious Stones Multi-Stakeholder Working Group to discuss the creation of acceptable due diligence guidelines to defend the integrity of the supply chain,” the organisation stated
