JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Canadian gold miner Detour Gold and three employees have been charged with offences under the Occupational Health and Safety Act following the death of an employee at the Detour Lake mine in June 2015.

The 52-year-old employee was believed to have died from cyanide intoxication.

The latest charges were brought against the company and the supervisors by the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

Detour Gold in April reported that it had been charged with criminal negligence under the Criminal Code of Canada.

“We believe, at this time, that all charges related to this incident have now been served. We are taking these charges very seriously and will need to obtain the information on which all charges have been brought in order to be in a position to comment further,” Detour Gold president and CEO Paul Martin said on Tuesday.
