SYDNEY (miningweekly.com) – Brazil-focused iron-ore miner Crusader Resources would look to expand production at its Posse mine after being granted a full environmental licence.

The miner said this week that a combined preliminary licence and installation licence was granted by the Minas Gerais state environmental council.

The licence, coupled with the economic development plan previously approved by the Mines Department, enabled Crusader to apply for a full mining right and expand production.

The Posse mine is currently operating under a trial mining licence and throughput is restricted to 300 000 t/y.

Crusader said, following first production in March, the mine and processing plant had now operated continuously for six weeks. Both production and sales were currently being increased in line with the new commissioning plan.

The Posse project is expected to produce one-million tons a year of iron-ore over six to eight years.
