(Virtual Showroom) Women’s Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women who are shaping South Africa’s future while recognising the importance of creating workplaces where talent, dedication and ambition can thrive. At Rosond, investing in people and providing meaningful opportunities for career growth remain central to building a more inclusive mining industry.

One employee whose journey reflects this commitment is Beauty Moropa, whose career with Rosond demonstrates how resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new challenges can open doors to long-term career development.

Investing in potential

Beauty began her career with Rosond in Burgersfort as a core marker within the exploration division before transferring to Rustenburg when the initial contract concluded. After the Rustenburg exploration contract ended, she joined the company’s underground division at Impala, where she was promoted to clerk, gaining valuable administrative experience.

Beauty later became a core marker on the Rasimone underground operation. During this time, management recognised her previous administrative experience and entrusted her with additional clerical and supervisory responsibilities. Her professionalism, organisational skills and natural leadership abilities quickly became evident.

From opportunity to leadership

Recognising her potential, Rosond identified Beauty as a future supervisor and invested in her development through a structured career progression programme. To broaden her operational knowledge, she was transferred underground as an assistant, allowing her to gain valuable technical experience. She has since progressed to operator while regularly relieving in a supervisory capacity.

“Women’s Month is a reminder that creating opportunities is only the beginning. Real transformation happens when organisations actively invest in developing people, recognise potential and provide clear pathways for growth,” comments Glen McGavigan, CEO of Rosond.

“Beauty’s journey is a remarkable example of what can be achieved through perseverance, continuous learning and the support of leaders who believe in developing talent. We are incredibly proud of her progress and look forward to seeing her continue to break new ground within our business,” says McGavigan.

Opening doors across the business

Beauty’s story is one of several examples of women advancing into roles traditionally occupied by men. Jacoreen Bartlett began her career at Rosond as a cleaner before progressing to become a driver. Today, she is the only driver at one of the company’s surface exploration division sites in the Northern Cape, demonstrating that determination and commitment can create opportunities across every part of the business.

Similarly, Bolokang Mere serves as a grade control machine operator and is currently the only woman performing this particular role within the company’s surface exploration division, further highlighting the important contribution women continue to make in operational and technical positions.

Building a more inclusive mining industry

Rosond believes that building a stronger mining industry depends on attracting, developing and retaining talented people from all backgrounds. By investing in skills development, mentorship and career progression, the company continues to create an environment where employees can realise their full potential.

“As an industry, we have made significant progress, but there is still important work to be done,” concludes McGavigan. “By supporting women throughout their careers, encouraging continuous development and recognising excellence wherever we find it, we are helping to build a more diverse, innovative and sustainable future for mining.”
