Continental breaks production records in SA

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – South Africa-focused gold miner Continental Coal has reported a record run-of-mine production during the three months to March, with a 35% increase over the previous quarter.

Coal production for the quarter under review reached 631 557 t, of which its Penumbra operation delivered 52 876 t, a 99% increase on the previous quarter. Production from the Vlakvarkfontein mine was also up by 32%, while the Ferreira mine’s production increased by 9%.

Continental noted that feed to the Delta processing operation also increased by 26% during the quarter, to 222 532 t, while export yields increased to a record 71.3% on tons from the Ferreira mine, and to 38.1% on tons processed from Penumbra.

Thermal coal sales for the quarter achieved an 8% increase, reaching 463 671 t.
