PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Lindi Jumbo graphite project, in Tanzania, has progressed to the construction phase, owner Walkabout Resources said on Tuesday.

The ASX-listed company told shareholders that the independent project manager had completed the site visit, and that bulk earthmoving contractor TNR was now mobilising to site.

“The appointment of the independent project manager by CRDB has kickstarted project development activities, with the mobilisation of bulk earthmoving equipment now underway. These activities coincided with the company hosting two high-level government delegations to site over the past week through visits by the Honourable Prime Minister of Tanzania Mr Kassim Majaliwa and Honourable Deputy Minister of Minerals Professor Shukrani Manya,” said Walkabout CEO Andrew Cunningham.

“Lindi Jumbo is now officially in construction and we look forward to updating our shareholders on the progress over the coming months.”

The Lindi Jumbo project is expected to require a capital investment of $32-million, including working capital and financing costs, with $3.6-million already having been spent on construction activities and on long-lead manufacturing items.

Over its 24-year mine life, the project is expected to produce some 40 000 t/y of graphite concentrate.
