Consolidation is changing the competitive landscape across mining and industrial services, as companies use acquisitions and strategic partnerships to expand capabilities, technology, market reach and scale.
In Episode 3 of IN FOCUS: Built to Last – The Future of South Africa’s Industrial Businesses, Paola Ferrari, head of mergers and acquisitions at mining equipment manufacturer Epiroc, and Mark Salmon, head of the Special Situations Fund at Differential Capital, examine what is driving consolidation and what makes businesses attractive to buyers and investors.
Ferrari looks at consolidation from the perspective of a global industrial group, including the role of technology, complementary capabilities and scale, as well as the characteristics Epiroc looks for when evaluating potential acquisitions. She also considers how smaller businesses can remain competitive as larger groups expand.
Salmon provides an investment perspective, examining the industries, management capabilities and growth opportunities that can make a business attractive, while highlighting the balance between scale and the agility that can underpin a smaller company’s competitiveness.
Watch Episode 3 of IN FOCUS: Built to Last for perspectives from Epiroc and Differential Capital on the forces driving consolidation and how businesses can position themselves as the industrial landscape changes.
