With sustainability being emphasised in the global steel industry, steel and technology group Voestalpine is implementing sustainable business practices to promote socioeconomic and ecological goals.

The company has established its sustainability framework, titled inSPire, that emphasises the circular economy, climate impact, sustainable sourcing and social impact.

The inSPire framework enables Voestalpine to positively impact on the socioeconomic and ecological environment by bundling industry projects and actions.

This makes it possible to exploit synergies and act in a targeted manner to facilitate positive developments in and around the company’s operations.

“We are guided by the vision of inSPire and aim to integrate all pillars of sustainability into our operations to make performance sustainable. We want to offer our customers the best performance while contributing to a sustainable future by considering our entire value chain in our actions,” the company says.

Voestalpine influences its ecological and social environment, thereby increasing its responsibility in ensuring sustainability for upstream and downstream supply chains.

Moreover, the company emphasises transparency in its sourcing of raw materials and general buying methods by being in constant dialogue with suppliers about solutions for reducing the negative impact on the environment.

“Close cooperation is central to ensure a sustainable supply chain. Our suppliers and colleagues share our values and it is fascinating to see the improvements we can achieve together,” says the company.

Voestalpine aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2029, while reducing Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2029. The company also aims for use of over 90% recycled scrap and secondary raw materials in its production processes by 2030.

The company aims to offer a “one stop shop” for its clients’ steel, machining and heat treatment requirements at competitive prices with high quality and exceptional service. Besides providing a wide range of steel products, the sales channels also provide a vast range of services.

“We aim to focus on achieving better high-performance grades, which includes electroslag remelted. ‘We have also introduced powder metallurgical steel to replace conventional tool steel for better production performance, and introduced mild steel grinding, machining and supplies to the market.

“Voestalpine High Performance Metals Africa can add value to you by early business involvement with their knowhow of premium steels and value-added services,” the company concludes.
