Company Announcement: Raspberry Pi Foundation celebrates one year Anniversary
This year RS Components celebrates the one year anniversary of Raspberry Pi with custom designed, limited edition, blue Raspberry Pi Anniversary boards. We are using this opportunity to give away Raspberry Pi Anniversary boards by way of educational and charitable competitions and auctions. The Raspberry Pi Foundation launched their first product in early 2012 which has proved to be a hugely successful initiative. This initiative was created due to the concern for the yearly decrease in the number of students applying for and having an interest in Computer Science. Although there are many sophisticated uses for the Raspberry Pi, the aim was to have it used by children around the world to encourage the learning and development of computer programs.
The Raspberry Pi is a small, lightweight credit-card sized computer board which is easy to use and can plug in to a TV or keyboard. It is capable of acting like a normal desktop PC with the functionalities of spreadsheets, word processing and games. With accessories added over the last year, and the Model B and Model A boards having been very successful, it is safe to say that Raspberry Pi has grown to become very popular and very high in demand. Mass production was also implemented and there are licensed manufacture deals in place of which RS Components is one of the two companies distributing Raspberry Pi products.
With the celebration of the one year anniversary of Raspberry Pi, there will only be a limited number of custom designed Anniversary boards available. These boards will not be available for sale. The South African market has 20 Anniversary boards up for grabs. These boards will only be available through charitable and educational activities such as competitions and Auctions where by the proceeds will be donated to the Charity RS Components support.
The proceeds of any Charitable activities in celebration of the Raspberry Pi Anniversary will be donated to Saving the Wild Dogs. It is possible to use a Raspberry Pi in not only home automation, for security purposes and such instances but also for wild life as we can track, monitor and help save the 450 wild dogs still left in the world by using the Raspberry Pi Camera Module recently launched. The purpose of these charitable and educational activities is to encourage children who would like to learn and who have an interest in a career in the Computer Science or Engineering field to start getting creative and to start learning through RS and the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
To kick off the Raspberry Pi Anniversary celebrations we are giving away a limited edition Raspberry Pi Anniversary board. This will go to the reader who suggests a school and provides the most inspirational motivation as to why this school would benefit from receiving a Raspberry Pi board. To get in touch and provide us with your suggested school and motivation, contact us on Rfeedback.za@rs-components.com <mailto:Rfeedback.za@rs-components.com> and provide us with the following media code: RASPANN1.
