PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Cimic’s mineral processing company Sedgman has been awarded two contracts worth a combined A$100-million to operate and maintain coal handling and preparation plants (CHPPs).

A contract with Mach Energy to operate and maintain the Mount Pleasant site, in New South Wales, is expected to generate some A$75-million in revenue over a three year period, while a contract with QCoal to operate and maintain the Byerwen site, in Queensland, will generate A$25-million over one year.

The Mount Pleasant site is expected to start operations towards the end of 2018, while the Byerwen CHPP is currently being commissioned.

Mount Pleasant hosts an estimated 474-million tonnes of reserve, and at full production the mine will produce some 10.5-million tonnes of run-of-mine a year.

Byerwen is an opencut mining operation, which is permitted to extract up to 15-million tonnes a year of run-of-mine coal to produce ten-million tonnes a year of combined coking and thermal coal products for the export market.
