Chatree restart still uncertain - Kingsgate
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Despite having proven to Thai authorities that the Chatree gold mine was not responsible for elevated levels of arsenic and manganese identified in local communities during a regular health check, ASX-listed Kingsgate Consolidated was still unable to confirm the timing of a possible restart of the mine.
The Chatree mine was ordered to close in January this year, after random urine and blood tests from villagers nearby the mine revealed above-standard arsenic and manganese levels.
However, Kingsgate said this week that a major environmental report by an independent international and Thai scientific expert had revealed that the Chatree mining operation was not the source of the elevated arsenic and manganese in the district.
The report has been delivered to the Department of Mining and Industry, and would also be presented to the local communities in the coming days.
Kingsgate noted that while it believed the authorities’ requests have been satisfied regarding an investigation into the matter, considerable uncertainty remained regarding the structure and timing of a restart of the Chatree mine, following community meetings.
As a result, the miner’s share trading remained suspended.
Kingsgate has maintained its production expectations for the 2015 financial year, despite the Chatree mine not being operational. For the full-year, the miner said it expected to produce between 130 000 oz and 140 000 oz from the Thai operation.
