Consulting Engineers South Africa (Cesa) CEO Graham Pirie retired last month, after 17 years at the helm, the organisation announced

.

Pirie would remain at Cesa as a strategic adviser until a formal process to appoint a new CEO had been completed.

He told Engineering News that more information would be released in due course when the group embarked on a media campaign.

Pirie had been at the forefront of establishing many initiatives to ensure that the consulting engineering sector maintained a fair and reasonable environment stimulating growth, profitability and sustainability.

During his tenure, Cesa also raised the profile of the sector, creating awareness and ensuring that the sector was “better understood” by society and public-sector clients.

The transformation strategy for the consulting engineering sector, culminating in the establishment of the Construction Industry Transformation Charter; the Best Practice Guideline for Procurement of Consulting Engineering Services in the Public Sector; and the culmination of the ISO 9001:2008 accreditation for the Cesa directive had also been developed during Pirie’s tenure.

Further, the outgoing CEO, an elected member of the South African Academy of Engineers, prioritised member participation in the International Federation of Consulting Engineers and its regional grouping, the Group of African Consulting Engineers.
