Dual-listed Centerra Gold on Wednesday announced that it had received an amended environmental impact assessment (EIA) for its Öksüt mine, in Türkiye, paving the way for full operations to be restarted in the coming weeks.

The approval of the EIA follows the receipt of regulatory approvals for the mercury abatement retrofit for the adsorption, desorption and recovery (ADR) plant at Öksüt.

In March last year, Centerra suspended gold doré bar production at the Öksüt mine, owing to the detection of mercury in the gold room at the ADR plant. The company has since completed a mercury abatement retrofit to the ADR plant.

With the final regulatory approvals and the restart of the ADR plant in place, Centerra will be able to begin processing the gold-in-carbon inventory on hand of about 100 000 recoverable ounces. The ADR plant has the capacity to produce gold at a rate of about 35 000 oz a month.
