Exploration and development company Carnaby Resources is making good progress with its scoping study for the Greater Duchess project, which is about 70 km to the south of Mount Isa, evaluating potential future scenarios for mine development and processing route options.

The study is exploring a standalone processing development and using third-party processing facilities in the region as a low capital expenditure start-up option.

Carnaby notes that there are several third-party processing facilities in the region that could be considered economically viable for the project.

The company has started metallurgical test work with the help of the team at Glencore’s Mount Isa copper mill and concentrator to assess the amenability of potential ore from Great Duchess.

The test work and engagement with the diversified major is ongoing, the firm notes.

The scoping study will be completed in the first quarter of 2024 and Carnaby expects the study to flow through immediately into a prefeasibility study.
