PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Carbon Energy has increased the Joint Ore Reserves Committee- (Jorc-) compliant inferred resource at its Surat basin tenements by some 48%, to two-billion tons.

The newly defined resource related to three exploration licences in the Macalister seam, and Carbon Energy said on Tuesday that there was significant potential for further resource definition on the same leases.

“The continuing increase in our Jorc resource, using publicly available information at our wholly owned tenements, demonstrates the world-class potential of the Surat basin,” said acting CEO Morne Engelbrecht.

“The basin’s thick and laterally continuous seams appear suitable for the development of a number of longwall coal mines, including the potential to mine other Walloon seams beneath this resource.”
