A thermal camera system that can identify abnormal temperatures on individuals and groups of people, is now available.

The camera system incorporates facial recognition software to automatically detect the temperature of anyone passing in front of the camera.

The cameras utilise thermal imaging and temperature sensors to pinpoint temperature within an accuracy range of 0.3° and an alarm is activated when an abnormal temperature is detected. Normal body temperature ranges from 36.5 °C to 37 °C, and temperature exceeding 37.3 °C is considered abnormal.

Canada-based company Provix supplies camera systems for mining companies around the world and believes that its temperature-measuring cameras will provide companies with a proactive Covid-19 detection method.

There are three different camera models available, depending on the application and location of use. The company asserts that its systems are ready to deploy as a plug-and-play solution and are fully networkable.

The systems include software for temperature data analysis and can be used in conjunction with existing employee photo identity databases. Each camera is equipped with a stand to facilitate setup and is also available as a battery-powered, portable solution.

The company explains that it has improved and upgraded its facial recognition technology and automatic infrared facial temperature measurement for the new system. The equipment automatically saves the facial image, temperature record, time, name, identity card information and other data. The thermal camera device can store up to 10 000 records, while providing an integrated video management platform that allows for video preview, playback, alarm management, electronic mapping and other functions.
