The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has appointed Mzwandile Sokupa CEO with effect from December 2, following the departure of former CEO Ursula Ntsubane.

Holding a master’s degree and with 20 years’ experience in the built environment, Sokupa charted his career as a strategist and a key player in sustainable human settlements in the City of Cape Town, where he held various managerial positions.

The former University of Cape Town lecturer was also instrumental in the development of infrastructure for the Department of Correctional Services throughout the country.

CIDB chairperson Bafana Ndendwa said Sokupa would join the board at a critical time when the industry was grappling with the challenges of collusion, slow trans- formation and the development of the emerging sector.

“His appointment brings stability to the CIDB, following a number of leadership changes and, as a critical driver of government’s strategy to transform the construction industry, organisational certainty is critical to the CIDB’s effectiveness as the industry leader,” he commented.
