SYDNEY (miningweekly.com) – Junior Brockman Mining has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s Tianjin Port Group (TPG) to explore a possible investment by TPG in the Marillana project’s infrastructure.

Brockman said on Thursday that the MoU also sets out the framework for both parties to cooperate and carry out studies on the construction, operation and technical support for the Marillana infrastructure.

A working group would be established to investigate these options.

The Western Australian iron-ore project's infrastructure would be mining-, rail- and port-related. It included Brockman’s interest in a 50-million-ton-a-year independent marine port facility and rail infrastructure being jointly developed by Brockman, Atlas Iron and FerrAus.

A detailed engineering study had already been completed on the marine project, and all Native Title Agreements were in place. The project was currently under negotiation with the Port Hedland Port Authority to finalise a port lease.

Brockman chairperson Kwai Sze Hoi said on Thursday that the MoU was a critical step in defining and commercialising an infrastructure solution for the Marillana project.
