The landlocked southern African country of Botswana is being virtually overlooked in the global hunt for copper. That is the view of ASX-listed MOD Resources Managing Director, Mr Julian Hanna, who was addressing the last day of the three day Paydirt 2014 Africa Down Under Conference in Perth today. “While the Kalahari Copper Belt is a large (~700km long) well-endowed metal province with substantial sediment hosted copper/silver deposits, it still remains relatively unexplored,” said Mr Hanna, whose company is developing the Botswana Copper Project.

“MOD has 80-100% interests in more than 7500km2 of granted licences, so we are well positioned to make new discoveries,” he said. Mr Hanna said MOD Resources is the second largest tenement holder in the Kalahari Copper Belt, and its Botswana Copper Project comprised a vast and strategically located area in the centre of the province. Its tenements directly adjoin licences held by ASX-listed Discovery Metals Ltd and American-owned Cupric Canyon Capital.

Mr Hanna said the Company had recently raised $2 million which would be used for infill and extensional drilling programs at its 100% owned Mahumo copper/silver project in the Kalahari Copper Belt, as well as to complete a conceptual mining study. “As a result of recent developments in the Kalahari Copper Belt, we consider the potential of this well-mineralised region is only starting to be realised,” Mr Hanna said.

“Our team has now identified high grade copper and silver mineralisation at Mahumo, in addition to a number of other exciting targets, and now has funding and a well-defined strategy to test this potential.”
