Book to help consumers plug into energy efficiency
In line with the national power crisis, Ellies Renewable Energy (ERE) has released a book – My Powerful Home – that is designed to aid consumers in taking control of energy solutions in the home envi- ronment.
Since the 2008 load-shedding, South Africa has become aware of the increasing shortage of energy and the increasing energy demand. A core area of focus for ERE was empowering the consumer in the renewable-energy field. Extensive research undertaken by the company indicated that the homeowner felt helpless when faced with increasing utility bills and finding the correct and trusted solution. My Powerful Home is ERE’s solution and it assists consumers in making informed decisions.
“Consumers need to realise that the problem and the solution lie with them. Only the consumer can manage his or her consumption and this book shows readers how to do that in easy-to-follow steps,” says author Shaun Worthmann.
The book is primarily aimed at homeowners across all income level economic lines. It aims to assist consumers in understanding where they are consuming energy and to educate them on how to make better choices in terms of technology and other interventions to be more energy efficient.
The book comprises two sections, with the first section educating the home- owner on energy consumption and listing energy-consuming devices and the factors that influence them. The second section informs the reader of renewable energies available.
