PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Guildford Coal has shipped its first coal from the Baruun Noyon Uul (BNU) coking coal mine, in Mongolia.

The first shipment followed the start of production in December last year, and Guildford’s signing of two offtake agreements with end-users in China. Coal from the BNU mine would be shipped to the Ceke border with China.

In November, the Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia granted Guildford approval to increase its mining capacity at the BNU mine from 1.5-million tonnes a year in 2015, to 2-million tonnes a year by 2016.

Previously known as the North pit, BNU forms part of Guildford’s South Gobi project, and has a coal resource of 70.4-million tonnes, which includes an indicated resource of 39.7-million tonnes.
