Aim-listed diamond producer BlueRock Diamonds, which owns and operates the Kareevlei diamond mine in South Africa’s Kimberley region, produced 7 682 ct during the third quarter.

This is an effective increase of 38% compared with production in the third quarter of the 2020 financial year.

BlueRock executive chairperson Mike Houston attributes the record production to quality high-grade kimberlite being mined, as well as the new crushing plant, which he says, “provides a consistent feed to the old three-pan processing plant”.

“The market for rough diamonds has remained firm throughout the quarter, with strong buyer participation at the South African tenders and a growing interest in Kareevlei diamonds as reflected in our average price of $554/ct, the highest quarterly price achieved by the company,” he notes.
