Name of the Project
Beyondie sulphate of potash (SoP) project expansion.

Location
Western Australia.

Project Owner/s
Kalium Lakes Limited (KLL).

Project Description
Kalium Lakes announced a debottlenecking review of the SoP purification plant in March 2021, revising steady-state SoP production estimates from 90 000 t/y to at least 100 000 t/y.

A feasibility study has now been completed for a production increase, as a new base case, to 120 000 t/y, which is inclusive of the 90 000 t/y and 100 000 t/y production targets previously announced by Kalium Lakes. The project is based on expanding existing infrastructure where required, for instance, the brine extraction and evaporation ponds, combined with a process plant debottlenecking and optimisation.

The additional brine will initially be sourced from the expansion of Beyondie’s Sunshine and 10 Mile Lake borefields and, subsequently, the incremental expansion of the 10 Mile West trenches and borefield during the next 15 years.

Significant opportunity exists for further expansion beyond 120 000 t/y, with further studies in progress.

Potential Job Creation
Not stated.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The project has an unlevered net present value, at a nominal 8% discount rate, of $484-million.

Capital Expenditure
The project will require incremental capital expenditure of $45.3-million.

Planned Start/End Date
Kalium Lakes announced the practical completion of the Beyondie SoP project in December 2021.

Latest Developments
Kalium Lakes has started with production borehole drilling and procurement of the second Sunshine preconcentrated brine transfer pipeline as part of the 120 000 t/y expansion plan.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
SRK (independent technical adviser for senior lenders); and DRA Pacific (compaction plant).
