TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The chairperson of JSE-listed Bell Equipment, Howard Buttery, will retire both as chairperson and as a director of the company at the mining-equipment manufacturer's next general meeting, on May 6, 2010.
“Buttery has stated that his decision is based on his desire to scale down his executive duties in the Bell Equipment Group enabling him to spend more time with his family and to give more attention to his personal business interests,” the company said in a statement on Friday.
He has agreed to assist in an advisory capacity for the forseeable future, and will be replaced by director Mike Mun-Gavin, who will take on the role of independent none-executive chairperson of the board.
Bell also plans to appoint a new director, Leon Goosen, also effective May 6, “in line with the group's succession planning”.
“The board and management of the group wish to express their gratitude to Mr Buttery for the 32 years of dedicated and loyal service to the group,” Bell said.
“His pioneering role in establishing Bell Equipment as a global player in the heavy equipment manufacturing and distribution industry and market leader in the South African articulated dump truck business has been invaluable to the group.”
