Project description
A consortium led by State-owned China National Machine & Equipment Import & Export (CMEC) has been chosen by the government of Gabon to develop the Beling iron-ore deposit in the north-east of Gabon. Included in the project will be the construction of a 560-km-long railway, a bulk commodities and container port, and two hydroelectric power plants.

Discovered in 1895, the Belinga iron-ore deposit is one of the largest untapped iron deposits in the world. The Belinga deposit is reported to have proven iron-ore reserves of more than 500-million tons.
