Bauba appoints new board members
Diversified mining and exploration company Bauba Resources has appointed Adriaan Slabber as a nonexecutive director, and Frederick Geldenhuys, Sean Edwards and Eugene Nel as independent nonexecutive directors.
The appointees will succeed former nonexecutive director and chairperson Nico van der Hoven, former executive director Nick van der Hoven (who will remain as CEO) and independent nonexecutive directors Martin Luyt and Damian Smith.
Slabber is a practicing attorney admitted to the High Court in 1982 and was a senior commercial partner at law firm Webber Wentzel until his retirement from full-time legal practice in 2001 to pursue his own business interests.
He was also one of the founding shareholders of Bauba at the time of its reverse listing on the JSE in 2008 via the takeover of Absolute Limited.
Geldenhuys, meanwhile, is a mining engineer with 20 years’ experience in managing business activities and operations in the mining industry.
He specialises in building and operating mines successfully, ensuring optimal return to shareholders.
Edwards, who holds a BComm degree and a Master of Business Leadership from Unisa, gained extensive experience in the production and marketing of ferroalloys and chrome ores during his 36-year career, until his retirement in 2020.
Between 2007 and 2020, he was part of the general management of Xstrata and Glencore’s marketing and logistics operation and was responsible for developing relationships with ferrochrome and chrome ore customers both locally and abroad, and with logistics service providers.
Nel has worked for ten years as a metallurgist, senior metallurgist and operations manager at various companies including Samancor Chrome and Impala Platinum.
He is currently the CEO of ASX-listed Vanadium Resources, and MD of ENC Minerals.
