Project Description
The plant will process graphited concentrate from Evion’s Maniry project, in Madagascar, into uncoated spheronised purified graphite for use in lithium-ion batteries.
Five different process routes and two throughput rates – 30 000 t/y and 15 000 t/y – have been reviewed as precursor to a prefeasibility study.

At a product output of 30 000 t/y, the project has an estimated pretax net present value (NPV), at an 8% discount rate, of $397-million and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 39.5%, with a payback of 3.51 years. At a product output of 15 000 t/y the project has a pretax NPV, at an 8% discount rate, of $152-million and an IRR of 28.4%, with a payback of 4,67 years.
Capital Expenditure
At an output of 30 000 t/y the project has an initial capital expenditure (capex) of $117-million and at 15 000 t/y a capex of $74-million.
