Barrambie titanium/vanadium project, Australia

Name of the Project
Barrambie titanium/vanadium project.
Location
About 80 km north-west of Sandstone, in Western Australia.
Project Owner/s
Emerging sustainable battery materials producer, Neometals.
Project Description
Barrambie is one of the biggest vanadiferous-titanomagnetite resources globally. Based on a mineral resource of 280.1-million tonnes, at 9.18% titanium dioxide and an ore reserve of 44.5-million tonnes, at 18.7% titanium dioxide, the project is expected to have a mine life of 21 years.
The project contains the world’s second highest-grade hard rock titanium resource at 53.6-million tonnes, grading 21.17% titanium oxide and 0.63% vanadium pentoxide, and high-grade vanadium resources totalling 64.9-million tonnes at 0.82% vanadium pentoxide and 16.9% titanium oxide.
Over the first ten years of operation, the project has the potential to produce more than 500 000 t/y of high-quality supply constrained ilmenite.
The prefeasibility study proposes a simple mine, crush, mill and beneficiate operation to produce mixed gravity concentrate, which would then be subject to a low-temperature reduction roast and magnetic separation at a second site alongside the Dampier to Bunbury gas pipeline east of Geraldton to produce separate ilmenite and iron-vanadium concentrate streams.
