Asanko to change to Galiano, names new chairperson
TSX- and NYSE American-listed Asanko Gold has announced that former Eldorado Gold CEO Paul Wright will become chairperson of the board of directors on April 1, succeeding Colin Steyn who has indicated that he will not seek re-election at the April 30 annual general meeting (AGM).
At the AGM, Asanko will also be seeking shareholder approval for a name change to Galiano Gold.
Company CEO Greg McCunn said that Wright would be leading the board at an “exciting time” for the organisation.
“Paul's extensive business and leadership experience will be extremely valuable for Galiano Gold as we seek to build a sustainable business capable of long-term value creation for our stakeholders."
Wright served as CEO of Eldorado Gold from October 1999 to April 2017. He is a graduate of the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne with more than 40 years of international experience in the development of open and underground mines.
The company currently operates and manages the Asanko gold mine, in Ghana, which is jointly owned with Gold Fields.
