Diversified miner African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) has announced that CEO Mike Schmidt has stepped down as CEO and executive director, with COO Velile Tobias to succeed him as CEO.

Schmidt will remain employed by ARM as executive of growth and strategic development in the executive chairperson’s office.

Tobias’ appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment process, which included interviews of internal and external candidates.

He had been COO of the company since November 2021 and has more than 28 years’ experience in the mining industry, during which he held various executive positions at Harmony Gold Mining, Anglo American Platinum and Gold Fields.

Chairperson Dr Patrice Motsepe says he is confident Tobias will contribute to the success and global competitiveness of ARM.
