New laptop designed to withstand harsh environments

ROBUST DESIGN he notebook is purpose-built to withstand dust, moisture, drops, vibration, extreme temperatures and other challenging conditions
Computer technology, products and solutions provider Dell launched its Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme notebook in June to provide a reliable device for frontline crews in the military, public safety, manufacturing and first-response services, besides others.
“The device is built to last and can be taken to the harshest of environments,” says Dell product marketing manager Boitumelo Kgonare.
The notebook is purpose-built to withstand dust, moisture, drops, vibration, extreme temperatures and other challenging conditions that users might face, she adds.
Dell used the most robust materials available to manufacture the laptop’s outer shell, which includes impact- resistant ultrapolymers and sturdy magnesium alloy.
Data is protected from the elements with sealed ports and compression gaskets, while also enabling performance at high temperatures with the fourth-generation QuadCool thermal management system.
There are four versions of the Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme notebook. Although each version has varying specifications, all the notebooks are equipped with a high-definition 14-inch outdoor-readable resistive touch screen and Windows 8.1 Pro, with 64-bit English/French.
Specifications
The laptops include up to 16 GB of RAM memory and up to 512 GB solid state storage and a full high-definition webcam with a privacy shutter.
USB 3.0 and native serial are featured on all Rugged Extreme products with dual serial/RJ-45 on the Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme.
Also featured is direct-view, outdoor-readable display for productivity in harsh sunlight that reduces glare and reflection, with less reliance on backlighting (resulting in longer battery life).
Further, there is docking commonality across the Dell Rugged Extreme portfolio, regardless of form factor, for cost savings over time and a sealed, customisable Red Green Yellow backlit keyboard that enables work in all lighting environments, features an “instant stealth” mode to go incognito.
The 14 Rugged Extreme notebooks bring exceptional security, manageability and reliability to the rugged space and enables anytime, anywhere connectivity that users need without sacrificing the control information technology departments require.
The new additions feature simplified system management with remote management capability and available Intel vPro technology for efficient out-of-band management, available Federal Information Processing Standards 140 – 2-compliant Trusted Platform Module 9, Dell Data Protection (encryption and ControlVault) advanced authentication, and are backed by a comprehensive suite of Dell service and support options.
