PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed junior Anova Metals has declared a maiden inferred resource of nearly one-million ounces of gold at its Big Springs deposit, in the US.

The project is estimated to host some 14.8-million tons of resource, grading 2 g/t of gold, for an estimated 968 000 contained ounces.

Anova said on Friday that increasing the cutoff grade to 2.5 g/t gold resulted in a high-grade core to the deposit of some 2.9-million tons, of 4.2 g/t for 388 000 oz.

“This maiden Joint Ore Reserves Committee mineral resource estimate confirms the size and quality of our 100%-owned Big Springs gold project,” said Anova MD Tim Dobson.

“It paves the way for the assessment of both opencut and underground mining options from surface in line with our intention to bring this low-risk project into gold production as soon as practicable.”

Dobson noted that the company was currently preparing and permitting a limited drilling programme to confirm a number of technical aspects of the Big Springs deposit, with a view to reclassifying the mineral resources, supporting operational permitting requirements and informing subsequent mining studies.

Both opencut and underground mining studies would be undertaken to determine the optimal production scenario for the project. Currently, the size, shape and depth of the deposit indicated that a combination of the two methods would be appropriate.
