BELO HORIZONTE - AngloGold Ashanti has resumed operations at a Brazilian plant shut down in 2022, allowing the miner to once again domestically process all the gold concentrate from its local mines, rather than exporting part of it, its Latin America head said on Tuesday.

AngloGold reactivated its second plant at the Queiroz industrial complex this month, its head for Latin America, Luis Lima, told Reuters on the sidelines of a mining event in the city of Belo Horizonte.

With the move, which involves 105-million reais in investments, the complex returns to a full processing capacity of 280 000 tons of gold concentrate a year.

AngloGold had restarted its other plant in the Queiroz complex in 2024.

The firm had been selling part of the gold concentrate from its Brazilian mines on the market while only one of the plants was operational, Lima said.

Both plants had been shut down in 2022, mainly for adjustments related to the treatment of liquid waste, Lima told journalists, citing vertical integration as the main reason for their reactivation.

AngloGold also produces sulfuric acid at the Queiroz complex, with an output capacity of about 240 000 tons a year.
